Proud to Serve Those Who Served
Acupuncture for Veterans with help navigating VA referrals and authorizations.
VA Community Care update: Glacier Acupuncture is currently completing its VA Community Care update for our new practice location. Veterans with current or pending acupuncture referrals are welcome to call or text with questions about scheduling and next steps. VA-authorized treatment at our new location will begin once the update is complete.
How the VA referral works
1. Ask for a referral
Start by asking your VA primary care provider or care team for a Community Care referral for acupuncture. You may also contact your local VA Community Care office with questions about the referral process.
2. The referral is sent to us
Once the referral is processed, the VA sends it to Glacier Acupuncture. We will contact you about scheduling and next steps.
3. We schedule your first appointment
After we have a treatment date, that information is provided to the VA so the authorization can be finalized.
4. The VA issues the authorization
Your authorization tells us what care has been approved, how many visits are covered and the dates during which treatment must occur.
5. We take it from there
Once the authorization is in place, you can schedule your approved visits directly with Glacier Acupuncture. If additional treatment is needed beyond the current authorization, we can request additional care from the VA.
Acupuncture authorizations often include a set number of visits within a specific time period. Your authorization will show exactly what VA has approved.
Community Care referrals can involve several steps. If you have questions about your authorization or aren’t sure what to do next, call or text us and we’ll help you navigate the process.

What veterans commonly come in for
Veterans commonly seek acupuncture for chronic back, neck and joint pain, sciatic pain, nerve pain, headaches and migraines, sleep concerns, stress, anxiety, PTSD, and recovery after injury or surgery. Acupuncture is one of the complementary and integrative health services available through the VA when approved by the Veteran’s care team, and it can be used alongside other medical care.
Not enrolled in VA health care yet? You can apply online or contact VA Alaska Health Care for help getting started. Eligibility depends on your service history and other factors.
